The Nigerian Police Reportedly Sacked A Female Corporal For Getting Pregnant Out Of Wedlock

The Nigerian Police has reportedly sacked a female corporal, Olajide Omolola, because she got pregnant out of wedlock. What are your thoughts on this? Should your employer be concerned with how your child is fathered?

I think it' s unfair for any employer to dismiss you because of how your child came about. If there was an agreement with the company to not get pregnant for say 2 years, it' s a totally different ball game.

This law is bias. How many police men were dismissed for impregnating a woman outside wedlock? None. But a woman will be dismissed, for the same thing these men do. Most police men have children with different women they are not married to. This is very wrong on the female gender. There are ladies who are single till a certain age and decides to go for IVF via donor to at least have a child if husband is not forthcoming. So what happens to them?

I think what the institution should be concern about is, will it affect her job. Women are the ones that mostly show the damages of men' s action, and the men mostly walk away like they' re untouchable, we should give women the chance to be happy as well.

The problem with Nigerians is too much of religion even to the extent of fighting for God. Does pregnancy stop her from doing her work or is there any portion of the constitution that said if you are pregnant out of wedlock, you should be sack?

Every Government established Organisation has their own specific period set aside for her workers to apply for legally married, I don' t know of that NPF but if she exceeded the legal period then it is not fair to sack her irrespective of how the child came up.

Its not the place of your employer to be concerned who fathered your child but it will be the employers business if the job is affected somehow either with productivity or the drama that surround the act.
